Project Overview

This project involved the restoration of the existing microcement flooring at the Kvadrat showroom located at 475 Park Avenue, New York. Following a water leak that damaged sections of the concrete substrate, the floor required precision repair and seamless reintegration to match the original finish.

Due to the architectural nature of the space and the visual continuity of the flooring, the repair demanded a custom microcement application with exact color, texture, and sheen matching.

Project Details

Project: Kvadrat – The Global Textile Company
Location: 475 Park Avenue, New York, NY 10022
Client: Kvadrat

Scope of Work

  • Removal of damaged flooring and preparation of the existing concrete slab
  • Repair and leveling of substrate affected by water intrusion
  • Re-installation of microcement flooring to seamlessly match the original finish
  • Protection of walls, millwork, glazing, and adjacent finishes during installation

Flooring System & Materials

To achieve a consistent and undetectable repair, a custom-built microcement system was used, incorporating:

  • Ardex Feather Finish for precision substrate correction and feathered transitions
  • Mapei cementitious materials integrated into the base system
  • Custom-blended pigments to replicate the original floor color and tonal variation
  • High-strength, multi-coat sealers for durability, stain resistance, and long-term performance

The system was hand-applied in multiple thin layers to ensure continuity across repaired and existing areas.

Key Performance Requirements

The flooring system was designed to meet the following criteria:

  • Seamless integration with the existing microcement floor
  • High durability for retail and showroom foot traffic
  • Resistance to moisture, cleaning agents, and daily wear
  • Non-porous, easy-to-maintain surface
  • Preservation of the original architectural aesthetic

Results

The completed floor delivers a uniform, seamless appearance with no visible transitions between the repaired areas and the original microcement surface. The finished system maintains the clean, minimalist character of the Kvadrat showroom while restoring full functionality and durability after the water-related damage.

This project highlights the importance of material knowledge, craftsmanship, and custom color matching when working within high-end commercial and design-driven environments.
